Open Mic & Slam

The Open Mic Series at Glendale Community Colleges puts the creative talents of the college’s and the community’s writers on display. At least once per semester, but often more, GCC hosts reading events from 7:00PM to 9:00PM, or thereabouts. Specific dates of these events will be announced on this site. These free events bring celebrated writers of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction to local residents, students, staff, and faculty. They are open to the public, and those interested in sharing their work are invited to present all styles and stages of writing. Due, however, to the topics of certain creative pieces, this event is not recommended for children.

Once per academic year, in November, we also host a Poetry & Prose Slam competition. During this event, we forego the open mic, the featured reader, and have a good-ol’ competition of readers with cash money prizes. We advertise these events on the blog and in our CRW classes at GCC. The most current schedule is listed below, but is always subject to change. More information and event descriptions will become available as the event grows closer. We hope you will come join us, share your work, and listen to creativity abound in the west valley.

Reading Schedule for Fall 2019:

  • Prose & Poetry Slam: Wednesday, November 14th from 7:00PM to 9:00PM.
