CRW SATURDAY WORKSHOP 8 NOVEMBER! Hope to see you there!
November 8, 9-11:30 a.m., LA-141, Free and Open to the Public — Saturday Workshop Series
“I Gave Them My Heart, They Gave Me a Rejection Letter: What Editors Look for in Submissions and Tips for Improving Your Writing Through Non-Traditional Methods,” presented by Jared Duran and Jia Oak Baker of Four Chambers (fourchamberspress.com), The Heart of Literature in Phoenix, Arizona.
Jared Duran is a writer and veritable man about town. He holds a BA in English, Creative Writing from ASU (well, sometimes. At other times it sits in a stack of papers on his desk). His work has appeared in Up the River, The Suisun Valley Review, and others (really, it has). In addition to Editing and Eventing (believe it or not, this was used as a verb. On NPR, too—I know, right?) for Four Chambers, Jared enjoys spending time with his lady, playing guitar, and being smothered by cats.
Jia Oak Baker is the author of a forthcoming chapbook, Crash Landing in the Plaza of an Unknown City (Dancing Girl Press, 2015). Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Profane, Poet Lore, DMQ Review, Likewise Folio, and elsewhere. Jia is the recipient of the 2013 Tucson Festival of Books Literary Award as well as scholarships to the New York State Summer Writers’ Institute and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. She has also been granted a residency from the Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, New Mexico. Jia earned a Masters in Education from Arizona State University and a MFA in Writing and Literature from Bennington College where she received a Liam Rector Scholarship. Jia teaches at Paradise Valley Community College and is an associate editor for the educational website http://www.languageforanewcentury.com.
