Carve Magazine (an online publication honoring the fiction of Raymond Carver) sponsors an annual contest for short fiction (6000 words). This year’s prize is $1500, and the guest judge is Aimee Bender. The submission deadline is May 15, 2014.

Glimmer Train is a very reputable print publisher. Their April “short fiction” contest is ending today, April 30 (3000 word limit). However, Glimmer Train has contests virtually every month, and also has a “slush pile” feature to consider works that may have been previously overlooked.
